THE GOBLIN
A short comic about a mysterious creature living with the monks of a secluded abbey.
I made this comic five years ago, and it's still probably one of the most personal things I've written.

In the garden there is a weed sandwiched between two statues,
Three small gods in communion.
It died while I wasn’t looking.
It’s now a dried husk,
Yellowed and fragile,
But still standing.
One of the statues has wrapped an arm around its stalk,
Helping it stand straight with dignity even in death.
And thus it joins its brethren in unliving.
And it will fade and wilt under the gaze of time just as it did as it lived,
But until then its sister supports it,
And it is a god once more.
There are a few things to keep in mind when playing laser tag.
Know where you’re aiming at all times.
Know where your opponents are located.
Know where the objectives are and where you can hide.
If it doesn’t light up,
It’s not important.
Fire every now and then to adjust positioning,
Taking note of the laser,
The way its red glow flits around as you do.
In the darkness,
Search for the light
And let it guide you.
Granny Smith apples are known for their tartness,
The kind of puckering sourness
That can leave teeth stinging and jaws clenched.
I find them electrifying,
A testament to knowing what you’re good at
And doubling down,
To walking your own path
Even if you have to pave it yourself.
I bite into one,
And savour its flavour.
It’s sweeter than you’d think.

These never work for me, but here’s to trying.
I need to get into grad school so
I want to be a creature that lives in the forest and never has to talk to anyone and I want to sleep on the moss and watch rain drop on the leaves
learning that people want you in their lives is a skill you can develop if it does not come naturally
it feels fake but your friends miss you sometimes
the reason you've been hanging out with your closest friends fairly regularly for the past 12+ years is because you have fun together
people who don't like you that much will not stay in your life for over a decade asking to hang out and inviting you to things and texting you
History isn’t written by the victors,
It’s written by the marketers.
It’s written by those who understand the power of PR and a good story,
How once the truth fades into distant memory
The only things left are pompous statues and plaques
And lies repeated often enough that everyone knows they’re fact.
And someday,
Someone may find an article or source that upturns conventional understanding
And brings us one step closer to the truth.
Let that day come as many times as it needs to.
